Saint John, Bishop of Suzdal, entered the monastery of the city of Suzdal at a young age. In 1350, he was appointed as the first Bishop of Suzdal and Nizhny Novgorod. During the Divine Liturgy, the Suzdal prince Boris Konstantinovich saw how the Angel of God served alongside the saint. He is known for his love for the poor and the sick; he interceded for the reduction of taxes for the needy, established almshouses and hospitals. He cared for the enlightenment of the pagan Mordva with the Christian faith. After the annexation of Suzdal to the Moscow Metropolis, he accepted the schema and withdrew to the Bogolyubsky Monastery, where he lived in solitude and peacefully passed away. Numerous healings have been witnessed at the saint's grave.
