Saint John Soloviev was born on January 26, 1894, in the village of Nikolaevka, Ryazan province. He studied at the Ryazan Theological Seminary, and in 1912 he became a psalm-reader in the church in the village of Krasnoe. In 1917, he was ordained as a deacon in the church in the village of Aponitishchi, and in 1930 — as a priest in the Church of the Nativity of the Theotokos in the village of Konchakovo.
In December 1937, he was arrested and imprisoned in a penal institution. During the interrogation, he denied all accusations of counter-revolutionary and defeatist sentiments. On December 20, the NKVD troika sentenced him to ten years of imprisonment. Priest John Soloviev passed away on August 9, 1941, in the concentration camp and was buried in an unmarked grave.
