Deacon
Saint John was born on March 16, 1887, in the village of Karacharovo, Moscow district. He received his education at a theological school and then served in the army as a clerk. In 1926, he was ordained as a deacon at the Assumption Church in the village of Kosino.
On November 27, 1937, during the height of the persecution against the Church, Deacon John was arrested and imprisoned in Taganka prison. He refused to sign a decree to hold him accountable for counter-revolutionary activities, not confirming any hostility towards the Soviet government.
On December 7, 1937, the NKVD troika sentenced Father John to ten years of imprisonment in a labor camp. He passed away on August 18, 1939, in the camp in the Amur region and was buried in an unmarked grave.
