Presbyter
Saint John was born on November 1, 1881, in the village of Lyubuchany, Podolsk district of Moscow province, in the family of priest Ioann Petrovich Orlov. In 1897, he graduated from the Perervinsky Spiritual School, and in 1903 — from the Moscow Theological Seminary and was ordained a priest. He served in the Trinity Church in the village of Troitskoye, Zvenigorod district, not far from the city of Voskresensk.
In 1937, there were two priests serving in the Trinity Church — Alexander Mashkov and Ioann Orlov, and deacon Peter Troitsky. On November 7, 1937, Father Alexander was arrested, and he gave testimony against his fellow clergy. On November 18, 1937, priest Ioann Orlov, deacon Peter Troitsky, and starosta Mikhail Stroeva were arrested and imprisoned in Taganka prison.
During the interrogations, Father Ioann refused to confess his guilt. On November 27, 1937, the NKVD troika sentenced him to ten years of imprisonment in a labor camp. Priest Ioann Orlov passed away on March 7, 1938, in the Mariinsky camp in Kemerovo region and was buried in an unmarked grave.
