Presbyter
Saint John was born on January 4, 1878, in the village of Lyatskovo, Bezeck District, Tver Province. After graduating from the Tver Theological Seminary, he was ordained a priest.
In 1929, Fr. John was arrested for being late with grain delivery. After his arrest, he moved to Tver, where he served in the Nativity Church. In 1933, he was arrested again and imprisoned in Tver prison, where he was interrogated but no evidence of guilt was found.
Despite the persecutions, he did not abandon his ministry and returned to his homeland in 1936. In 1937, Fr. John was arrested for the third time and sentenced to execution. He was shot on August 25, 1937.
He was canonized among the ranks of the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia in August 2000 for public veneration.
