John Lomakin
Martyr
Martyr John, born in 1884 in the village of Staroe Chetovo in the Tambov province, came from a peasant family. He was a deeply devout man who did not refuse help to wayfarers and constantly attended church. In 1937, Ivan Lomakin was arrested and accused of participating in a counter-revolutionary organization, as well as anti-collective farm agitation. He did not confess to his guilt. On August 5, 1937, the troika of the NKVD sentenced him to the highest measure of punishment, and on August 10, the sentence was carried out by execution by shooting. John was glorified in the ranks of saints at the Jubilee Archpastoral Council of the Russian Orthodox Church in August 2000.
