Saint Righteous John (John Ilyich Sergiev) was born on October 19, 1829, in the village of Sure, Arkhangelsk Province. From childhood, he showed piety and love for nature. At the age of six, he saw his Guardian Angel. At nine, he entered the Arkhangelsk School, where, through prayer, he overcame difficulties in his studies. He graduated from the seminary and the Saint Petersburg Theological Academy, was ordained a priest, and appointed as the priest of the Andrew Cathedral in Kronstadt.
From the first day of his ministry, he dedicated himself to God and people, performing the Divine Liturgy and helping those in need. His prayer was powerful, and people from all over Russia turned to him for help. Father John had the gift of healing; his prayers helped people of all classes and faiths. He was also a law teacher, beloved by his students, inspiring them with faith.
Father John founded the "House of Labor" in Kronstadt, where he provided assistance to the poor, opened schools, and clinics. He passed away on December 20, 1908, at the age of eighty. His funeral was accompanied by an immense crowd, and praying people flocked to his resting place. Saint Righteous John of Kronstadt continues to respond to the prayers of all who seek his help.
