Great Schema Hieromonk
He was born on May 23, 1875, in the village of Kulakovo, Troitsky District, Tobolsk Province, to a peasant family of Afanasy Kevroletin. He received his education at home. In 1894, he entered as a novice in the Kirtom Cross Exaltation Monastery in Irbit District, Perm Province, founded in 1878. The monastery had a strict rule, and the obedience of John consisted of leatherwork.
He labored there for six years, then moved to the Verkhoturye Nikolaev Monastery, where he served as a painter and carpenter. On December 20, 1907, he was tonsured into the mantle with the name Ignatius. In 1909, he was ordained as hierodeacon, and in 1913 – as hieromonk.
In 1925, the monastery was closed, and he served in various parishes. In 1925, he was arrested and spent about a month in the OGPU prison. After his release, he continued to serve, but in 1932 he was arrested again and sentenced to three years of exile in Western Siberia.
During his exile, he fell ill with scurvy but was cured by a spiritual daughter who took care of him. Upon his return, he lived in a small house on the outskirts of Verkhoturye, hiding from the world. In the last years of his life, he accepted the schema with the name John.
He passed away on January 27, 1961. In the summer of 1993, his relics were found and transferred to the Verkhoturye Nikolaev Monastery.
