Ivan Ivanovich Florovsky was born in 1877 in the village of Istomino, Tarusky district, Kaluga province. After receiving an education at the Theological Seminary, he was ordained a priest in 1897 and served in the city of Bobrov, Voronezh region, until 1937. On March 17, 1937, he was sentenced to 5 years of exile in Kazakhstan, after which he moved to the village of Maiskoye in Pavlodar region. Here he was arrested again, accused of 'counter-revolutionary activities.' Not admitting his guilt, the troika of the NKVD sentenced him to execution. At 2 a.m. on December 2, 1937, Priest Ioann Florovsky was shot. The place of his burial is unknown.
