Saint John was born on September 18, 1875, in the village of Stary Chirtim, Kamyshkir volost, Kuznetsk district, Samara province, in the family of a priest, Mikhail Dneprovsky. After graduating from the Theological Seminary, he became a psalmist in the church in the village of Ulybovka, Volsky district, Saratov province. In 1898, he married a maiden named Alexandra, and they had four children.
In 1905, he was ordained as a deacon to the church in the village of Tersa, and in 1914 – as a priest to the church in the village of Polchaninovka. The church was closed in 1929, and Father John moved to the city of Novouzensk, where he worked as an observer at the meteorological station.
On December 8, 1937, he was arrested and imprisoned in a prison in Saratov. During the interrogation, he denied all charges, but on December 10, the NKVD troika sentenced him to execution. Priest John Dneprovsky was shot on December 15, 1937, and buried in a common unmarked grave.
