Saint John, Ivan Georgievich Budrin, was granted the gift of priesthood in 1889 when he was ordained a priest at the Pokrov Church of the village of Verkhny Yar in the Perm province. In 1902, he became a catechist, and in 1908 he was awarded a kamilavka.
After the atheists seized power, the Church was subjected to brutal persecutions, especially in the Yekaterinburg and Perm dioceses. Father John courageously denounced the godless Bolsheviks for their lawlessness. He was brutally tortured on June 21, 1918, before being killed; his tormentors pulled out his hair from his beard and head.
