Hieromonk
St. Ilya was born on February 24, 1867, in the village of Karinskoye, Vladimir Province. In 1892, he had a son, Pavel, with his wife. Ilya Ivanovich worked at a textile factory and served in the church. After the death of his wife in 1920, he entered the Lukianov Nativity of the Theotokos Monastery, where he was tonsured into monasticism. In 1932, the monastic dormitory was destroyed, and he began serving in the church in Alexandrov. In 1937, churches were closed, and the clergy were arrested, but Father Ilya was not arrested due to his experience.
On June 27, 1937, he settled in the village of Yeremeevo and began serving in the Church of the Ascension of the Lord. On February 12, 1938, the village council issued a certificate for the NKVD stating that priest Ilya 'is a person alien to the social environment.' On February 20, 1938, the local NKVD officer submitted a report requesting the arrest of Father Ilya. On February 28, he was arrested, and on March 1, he was interrogated, where he answered questions about his religious beliefs.
On March 2, the NKVD troika sentenced him to execution, and he was transferred to Taganskaya prison. Hieromonk Ilya was executed on April 5, 1938, and buried in an unknown common grave at the Butovo shooting range near Moscow.
