Saint Ilya was born in 1882 in the village of Hormaly, Tsivilsky district of Kazan province. In 1925, he accepted the rank of priest. In 1930, the church in the village of Hormaly was closed, but through his persistent petitions, it was reopened. On March 25, 1932, he was arrested and sentenced to 3 years of exile in Kazakhstan. Upon his return in 1935, he continued his priestly service, although the church was still closed. On August 4, 1937, he was arrested during the mass repressions and, not admitting his guilt, was sentenced to execution. Priest Ilya Izmailov was shot in the night of September 17, 1937, in Alatyr and buried in a common grave on the territory of the NKVD.
