Saint Ignatius was born on December 20, 1876, on the farm of Marino in Vladimir Province, in the family of peasant Artemy Markov. He was a deeply believing person, attended the church in the village of Makhry, and earned a living through farming. On April 6, 1931, he was arrested in the city of Zagorsk.
During the interrogation, he stated that he could not pay the tax of 2,200 rubles, as a result of which all his property was confiscated. Ignatius, as a believer, went to the Trinity-Sergius Lavra to pray. He never complained about his fate, believing that everything happens according to the Gospel, and that the existing authority is sent by God for our sins.
He opposed joining the collective farm, as he believed that one cannot pray to God in a collective farm. On June 6, 1931, the OGPU Collegium sentenced him to death. Ignatius Artemyevich was shot on June 10, 1931, and buried in an unknown common grave at the Vagankovo Cemetery in Moscow.
