Venerable Gregory the Iconographer of the Kiev Near Caves
Venerable
Blessed Gregory, the iconographer of the Caves, was a contemporary of Blessed Alypius of the Caves. In the 'Tale of the Holy Iconographers' it is said that he wrote many miraculous icons that are found in the Russian land. In the 9th hymn of the canon service to the Assembly of the Kiev Caves Blessed Ones, resting in the Near Caves, Blessed Gregory is called Byzantine; it is possible that he was among the iconographers who came from Constantinople to Kiev to adorn the Great Church of the monastery in honor of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos.
