Saint Glykéria, the daughter of Panteleimon, the headman of the Legoщaya street in Veliky Novgorod, was canonized after the discovery of her incorrupt body on July 14, 1572, fifty years after her death. According to a contemporary witness, she was mourned for about fifty years, and after her burial, miraculous healings occurred. The Novgorod chronicle mentions that the body was found intact. Archbishop Leonid of Novgorod solemnly placed the relics of the saint in the church of Saints Florus and Laurus. On the same day, the son of a scribe received healing from an illness, which became the basis for her canonization. Saint Glykéria is depicted in the ancient icon of Novgorod miracle workers, where she is presented among other saints. A chapel in her honor was established in the Tikhvin church.
She is a prototype of the wise virgins from the Gospel parable, who gathered oil for their lamps to meet the Bridegroom Christ worthily. Her good deeds and exploits serve as a lamp, burning before God.
