Saint Gerontius the Canonarch of the Kiev Caves
Venerable
St. Gerontius asceticized in the 14th century as a monk of the Kiev-Pechersk Monastery, fulfilling the obedience of a canonarch. He spent his entire life in the monastery, engaged in the struggles of abstinence, obedience, and prayer. The saint was buried in the Far Caves. His memory is celebrated with the Assembly of the Venerable Ones of the Far Caves on August 28.
