The last igumen of the Vulevtheria Monastery on Athos, where he labored alongside St. Niphon of Athos (+ 1330). Due to pirate raids, St. Gerontius moved to an impregnable rock and founded an hesychasterion in honor of St. Panteleimon the Martyr. By his prayer to the Most Holy Theotokos, a spring miraculously gushed forth near the hesychasterion. St. Gerontius was in spiritual communion with St. Maximus the Kavsokalyvite (+ 1365). According to tradition, St. Gerontius is considered the founder of the Skete of St. Anne.
