Presbyter
Saint George Bogich was born on February 6, 1911, in the town of Subbotica. He completed his gymnasium education in Nova Gradiška and his theological seminary studies in Sarajevo. He was ordained a priest in Pakrac on May 25, 1934. He served in the parishes of Majar and Bolomaci, and in 1940 he was transferred to the parish in Našice, where the war found him.
Father George's martyrdom is connected to the Catholic priest Sidonije Šolc from Našice. On the night of June 17, 1941, the Ustaša Felix Lahner broke into the priest's apartment with two Ustašas and declared that Bogich must immediately come for questioning. Father George left his home and got into a car that headed towards the fields. He was taken out of the city and subjected to brutal torture near the chapel of Saint Martin.
The Ustašas tied the priest to a tree, cut off his nose, ears, and tongue, and tore his beard off along with the skin. Then, with the most cynical insults, they gouged out his eyes. One of the Ustašas slit open his abdomen and wrapped his intestines around the martyr's neck. When Father George was already unconscious, the Ustašas cut the rope to which he was tied and shot him.
The priest's body remained at the place of his murder all night, and the next day around four o'clock, it was picked up by gypsies and buried in the cemetery in the colony of Brezik.
