Saint George, the Confessor, lived during the time of iconoclasm. He became a monk and the bishop of Antioch, in Pisidia, where he guided his people with grace. When the disputes over iconoclasm grew more intense, he courageously defended orthodoxy. At the council that took place in Constantinople, he urged the emperor to follow the church's decrees and the teachings of the holy fathers. Saint George was forced to renounce the veneration of icons. However, he did not obey. He was removed from his duties, lived in exile and ended his life in silence, peace and prayer.
