Archimandrite
The venerable martyr archimandrite Gregory (in the world, Gennady Matveyevich Rebeza) was born in 1872 in the Poltava province. In 1895, he was tonsured a monk and ordained to the priesthood. In 1936, Father Gregory was arrested in Odessa and sentenced to exile in Kazakhstan. He was sent to the village of Maiskoye in the Pavlodar region, where the following year he was again arrested and sentenced to death by shooting.
From the case materials: “In response to the investigator's question about the counter-revolutionary work he was conducting together with other clergy, he gave the following answer: ‘I did not engage in counter-revolutionary work while in exile, but I know all the exiled clergy living in the village of Maiskoye personally, but I do not remember their surnames.’”
At 2 a.m. on December 2, 1937, archimandrite Gregory (Rebeza) was shot. The burial place is unknown.
