The Archangel Gabriel was chosen by the Lord to announce to the Virgin Mary the incarnation of the Son of God. He served the mystery of our salvation and proclaimed the future incarnation of the Son of God, inspiring prophets such as Moses and Daniel. Gabriel appeared to the righteous Anna with the news of the birth of the Most Holy Virgin Mary and guarded her in the Jerusalem temple. He foretold the birth of John the Baptist and revealed the mystery of the incarnation of the Son of God to Saint Joseph the Betrothed. During the Lord's prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane, he strengthened Him, and after the Resurrection of Christ, he announced the joyful news to the myrrh-bearing women.
The Orthodox Church calls on the faithful to turn to the holy Archangel Gabriel in prayer with faith and diligence, remembering his zealous fulfillment of God's will and intercession for Christians.
