Saint Gabriel Ivanovich Arkhangelsky was born on March 25, 1890, in the village of Urleyka, Petrovsky district of Saratov province. He received his education at the Petrovsky Spiritual School and graduated from the Saratov Spiritual Seminary in 1917. He served in the churches of the Penza diocese and was ordained as a deacon and priest.
On November 29, 1929, he was arrested, and on February 12, 1930, he was sentenced to 5 years of imprisonment in a concentration camp. After serving his sentence, he continued his ministry. On January 10, 1936, he was assigned to the Pokrovsky church in the village of Pokrovo-Berezovka, where he purchased utensils for the liturgy. On April 5, 1936, he served as a psalmist in the Mitrofanievskaya church.
On October 18, 1936, he was imprisoned in the Penza prison on charges of belonging to a counter-revolutionary organization. On August 7, 1937, he was sentenced to death and was executed on September 4, 1937, being buried in an unmarked grave. He was canonized in August 2000 by the Archpastoral Jubilee Council.
