Saint Philogonius, Bishop of Antioch
Holy Hierarch
Bishop
Bishop
Blessed Philogonius diligently studied the Divine books from an early age and, considering the holy teaching as a guide, shone with the sanctity of life. Being a lawyer, he defended the oppressed, standing against the oppressors of widows and orphans. After the death of his wife, he was forcibly elected as bishop in 318 AD. During his time, heretical disturbances began in the church, and as a good shepherd, he wisely defended his flock, refuting the cunning words of heretics. St. John Chrysostom honored him with praise in 386 AD. Saint Philogonius, guiding his spiritual flock, peacefully departed to the glorious abodes of the Heavenly Father around 323 AD.
