Deacon
The Holy Apostle Philip was from Caesarea of Palestine. He had four daughters who prophesied. He was chosen as a deacon and served the believers, caring for the poor and widows. After the persecutions of Christians, Saint Philip preached in Samaria, healing diseases and casting out demons, which brought great joy to the city. Among those who believed was the sorcerer Simon, who also was baptized.
The Apostle Philip was visited by an angel of the Lord, commanding him to go on the road from Jerusalem to Gaza. He met the eunuch of Candace, who was returning from Jerusalem, and taught him the faith, baptizing him on the way.
After the baptism, Saint Philip was taken away by the angel and transported to Azotus, preaching in all the cities until he came to Caesarea, where he lived with his prophet daughters. Later, he was appointed as a bishop and sent to preach in Asia Minor, where he converted many to Christ and departed to the Lord in deep old age.
