Apostles of the Seventy Archippus and Philemon, and Martyr Apphia
Apostles
The Holy Apostles Philemon, Archippus, and Apphia were converted to Christianity by the Holy Apostle Paul and suffered for Christ at the hands of Greek pagans during the reign of Emperor Nero in the city of Colossae. During a prayer gathering, the pagans attacked them, and only these three were captured and brought before Artocles, the grain keeper of Ephesus.
Archippus was brutally beaten, he was stabbed with knives, and then Saint Philemon and Saint Apphia were also tortured and beaten with stones. All three departed to the Lord in suffering.
The memory of these saints is celebrated on February 19.
