Saint Theosebia the Deaconess was the sister of Saint Gregory of Nyssa. She devoted her life to serving the Church of Christ by caring for the sick, providing food for those in need, raising orphans and preparing countless women for the Holy Baptism. When her brother was exiled for three years, she remained faithfully by his side, sharing in the hardships and uncertainties of his life away from home.
Saint Theosebia reposed in the Lord in 385. Saint Gregory honored her memory by composing an ecclesiastical hymn, in which he praises her as: "Truly holy, the glory of the Church, the adornment of Christ, the benefactor of our generation, the pride of women, and one worthy of the great mysteries."
These words testify to the profound esteem in which she was held and to the exceptional holiness of her life and ministry.
