Martyrs Christopher, Theonas, and Antoninus, at Nicomedia
Martyrs
The holy martyrs Christopher, Theonas, and Antoninus were soldiers and spearmen of Emperor Diocletian. They witnessed the sufferings of the holy great martyr George and, seeing the miracles performed by the power of God, believed in the Savior. Casting off their golden military belts, they declared themselves Christians and were thrown into prison. The next day, the emperor urged them to renounce Christ, but they steadfastly confessed their faith. Diocletian ordered them to be tortured: they were beaten with iron rods and their bodies were scraped with hooks. The saints bravely endured all the torments and remained unyielding. In 303, the emperor ordered them to be burned, and the martyr's end of the saints took place.
