The unknown origin saints Theophilus and Jacob asceticized on the island of Koneva, possibly beginning their monastic labors together with Saint Arsenius of Koneva. In 1395 or 1396, they left Koneva and moved to the river Omucha, where in the vicinity of the Demyan wilderness, they founded a hermitage in honor of the Dormition of the Mother of God. Saint Theophilus was regarded as the founder of the monastery, while Saint Jacob was its organizer. The saints reposed in the early 15th century, around the year 1412. The day of Saint Jacob's repose is unknown, while Saint Theophilus reposed on December 29. The local celebration is observed. The holy relics of God's servants rest beneath the ground in the church of the Dormition of the Mother of God, since 1764 a parish church.
