Hierodeacon
St. Theophan was born on January 6, 1874, in the village of Nikitskaya, Vladimir province. In 1902, he entered as a novice in the Borisoglebsky Rostov Monastery, where in 1907 he was tonsured into the mantle with the name Theophan, and in 1908 he was ordained as hierodeacon. After the monastery was closed in 1923, he moved to Sergiev Posad and served in the Assumption Church until October 21, 1935, when he was arrested. He was accused of counter-revolutionary activities, but he did not admit his guilt. On January 8, 1936, he was sentenced to three years of exile in the Northern region. In the autumn of 1937, he was arrested again, accused of spreading counter-revolutionary rumors. On October 15, 1937, the NKVD troika sentenced him to ten years of imprisonment in a labor camp. He died in the camp on March 18, 1938, and was buried in an unmarked grave.
