The Monk Theodul of Constantinople, Ephesus, Eparch, Pillar-bearer
Venerable
He was a patrician during the reign of Theodosius the Great (378–395), known for his wisdom, piety, and humility. He was appointed as the eparch of King Theodosius, but he left his position, unwilling to tolerate injustice.
His wife died after two years of marriage, after which Theodulus distributed his wealth to the poor and, at the age of 42, withdrew to the city of Edessa, where he asceticized on a pillar for 40 years.
After many labors and struggles, he peacefully reposed around the year 440.
