Venerable
Ηegumen / Abbot
Ηegumen / Abbot
Saint Theodosius of Totma Sumorin was born in Vologda around 1530. From a young age, he was raised in the spirit of Christian piety. After the death of his parents and wife, he withdrew to the Prilutsky Monastery. Theodosius performed various obediences and, having received permission from Tsar Ivan Vasilyevich, founded a monastery near Totma, becoming its abbot. He led an ascetic life, exhausting his body and loving spiritual reading, while enriching the monastery with books. The saint reposed in 1568 and was buried in the monastery he founded, where miracles occurred. His relics were found incorrupt on September 2, 1796, and his glorification took place on January 28, 1798.
