Saint Theodora, of Greek origin, was wealthy and lived in a Christian marriage. After the death of her husband, she took monastic vows, following Christ. She led a pious life under the guidance of Saint Basil the New, who lived in her house. She reposed on the thirtieth day of December. After her death, holy Angels carried her soul, and Saint Basil helped her by adding his good deeds to hers.
In a dream, Gregory, a disciple of Basil, saw a young man who told him that Theodora was calling him. Gregory was taken to the gates of heaven, where he saw Theodora and Basil. Theodora spoke of the terrible tolls she had to pass through and the help she received from the good deeds of Basil. She described how the Ethiopians showed her a scroll with her deeds and how the Angels helped her pass through the tolls, adding Basil's merits to her good deeds. In the end, she was brought into the blessed place, while sinful souls were subjected to torments.
Gregory awoke and recounted his vision, and all were amazed and thanked God for granting Theodora the heavenly abodes.
