Theodora the Blessed
Righteous
Saint Theodora was the wife of King Theophilus, an iconoclast, but she did not share his heresy. She secretly kept holy icons and prayed to God for mercy for the Orthodox. After her husband's death, she restored Saint Methodius to the patriarchal throne, gathered a holy council, at which the iconoclasts were condemned, and the icons were returned to the churches. Theodora prayed for her husband, that he might be spared from eternal torment. Soon after this, she surrendered her soul to God, leaving the kingdom to her son Michael.
