Saint Theodore Yakovlev was born in 1897 in a peasant family in the Saint Petersburg province. He graduated from seven classes of the Voronezh Real School. After the October Revolution, he was mobilized into the Red Army, and then served in the militia. In early 1930, he was arrested along with the clergy of the Alekseevsky Monastery. During the interrogation, he stated that he did not consider himself guilty of the charges brought against him and spoke about his service and confessions to the peasants. Along with him, other clergymen were arrested, who also did not acknowledge their guilt.
On July 14, 1930, they were presented with a resolution on the completion of the investigation. On July 28, the OGPU Collegium sentenced them to execution by shooting. On August 2, after the feasts of Saint Seraphim of Sarov and the prophet Elijah, their sentence was announced. On the same day, they were shot in the vicinity of Voronezh.
