Saint Theodore lived during the reign of Emperor Diocletian in Cyrene of Libya. He devoted himself to copying sacred texts, which he distributed to churches, thus helping to spread the word of the Gospel.
His son, Leo, reported him to the governor Dignianus, claiming that his father was turning people away from the worship of pagan gods. The saint was brought before the governor and, despite threats, refused to betray his faith in Christ. He did not surrender the holy books, was beaten, and endured severe tortures.
Among other acts, he destroyed pagan altars, for which he was suspended and tortured.
Together with him, Saints Cyprilla, Aroa, and Lucia were also martyred.
Their memory is commemorated on July 4.
