Saint Theodore, Bishop of Alexandria, was born in Egypt, in Alexandria. He was a fervent preacher, which provoked fierce hatred from the pagans. During one of his sermons, the pagans captured him, beat him, and mocked him, placing a crown of thorns upon his head. They threw him from a cliff into the sea, but he remained unharmed. Later, he was betrayed to the Roman soldiers and was executed by beheading, like the Apostle Paul.
