Martyr Themistocles of Myra in Lycia
Martyr
Saint Themistocles lived during the reign of Decius in the city of Myra in Lycia and was a shepherd of sheep. During the persecutions of Christians orchestrated by the regional governor Asclepius, he, without revealing the hiding saint Dioscorus, confessed his faith and was brought before Asclepius. The saint was subjected to cruel tortures: he was beaten in the belly, hung on a tree, and then dragged over iron with sharp spikes, which led to his martyr's end. He surrendered his spirit to God in the year 251.
