Saint Euthymius was from Sebaste. After hearing the message of the Gospel, he left his parents and friends, came to the Apostle John the Theologian and became his disciple. By following him, he gained the wisdom of Christian faith. He labored for the preaching of the Gospel and endured every hardship in the name of the true God.
The saint is considered the youngest of the apostles, since he followed the others and eventually became a bishop himself. He preached in many different lands and endured imprisonment, beatings, and hunger.
On one occasion, when his body was exhausted and covered with wounds from the terrible tortures he had suffered, fragrant myrrh began to flow from it. When the saint was thrown into the fire, a great storm miraculously arose and extinguished the flames, preserving his life. Afterwards, he was thrown to the wild beasts, that stood peacefully before him.
The memory of the saint is celebrated on August 24.
