Bishop
Saint Eustathius the Confessor, having renounced the world, devoted himself to the monastic life. He became a priest and a great ascetic. He was a humble, pious, and merciful preacher. His compassionate personality led him to actions of great love and affection. Elected as the bishop of Bithynia, he governed the church according to the teachings of the holy apostles. During the period of iconoclasm, he strongly defended the holy icons, for which he suffered many hardships: threats, tortures, imprisonment, and exile. Having lived in exile for years, he passed away with a pure spirit and unwavering faith in the heavenly Kingdom of God.
