Martyr Eusignius of Antioch
Martyr
Saint Eusignius was born in Antioch. He served in the army for sixty years and was a witness to the martyrdom of Saint Basiliscus. After this event, he saw the sign of the Cross formed in the sky and, strengthened with spiritual courage, fought bravely against his enemies.
During the reign of Julian the Apostate, Saint Eusignius was arrested, accused of apostasy and of believing to Christianity. At his trial, he boldly denounced Julian for his persecutions and praised the faith of Constantine the Great.
At the age of 110, he was condemned to death and suffered martyrdom, offering himself as a sacrifice to Christ.
The Church commemorates his memory on August 5.
