The clergyman was born in 1886 in the family of a psalmist in Vladimir Province. He graduated from an icon-painting school and served in the army, after which he was ordained as a deacon and served in the Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos in Moscow Province. In 1937, arrests of church officials began, and Deacon Eugene was arrested on January 26, 1938. His interrogations concerned accusations of anti-Soviet agitation, which he denied. On February 19, 1938, he was sentenced to death and executed on February 26, 1938, buried in an unmarked grave at the Butovo firing range near Moscow.
