Archbishop
The parents of Blessed Euphemius, Michael and Anna, prayed for a long time for the gift of a child and received a son, whom they baptized with the name John. From a young age, he showed a desire for God and, upon reaching the age of fifteen, decided to become a monk. Soon he was tonsured into monasticism with the name Euphemius.
Euphemius lived in a monastery founded by monks and showed strict obedience to the abbot. His virtues attracted the attention of Archbishop Simeon, who entrusted him with the management of church property. After the death of Simeon, Euphemius was elected Archbishop of Novgorod and, despite his humility, accepted this high office.
He was ordained by Metropolitan Gerasim and returned to Novgorod, where he diligently cared for his flock, striving to bring forth the fruits of spiritual service. Blessed Euphemius reposed on March 10, 1458, leaving behind a good memory and many followers.
