Saint Martyr Eudoxius lived during the persecutions against Christians under the reign of Emperor Diocletian. He abandoned his position as a general and went into hiding with his family in order to avoid arrest. While soldiers were searching for him, he voluntarily revealed himself and declared that he was willing to suffer for Christ. Before departing, he gave instructions to his wife, Vasiliki, and to his children, urging them not to grieve over his death, but rather to rejoice and glorify God.
During his interrogation, the governor demanded that he worship and offer sacrifice to the idols. The saint replied that sacrifices should be offered only to the one true God. After his refusal, he was subjected to severe torture, yet remained unwavering in his faith. In the end, he was condemned to be beheaded. Before his execution, he prayed to God, asking Him to accept his sacrifice and keep him in the heavenly Kingdom.
As he was led to the place of execution, the saint encouraged both his wife and his friend Zeno, who had also decided to confess his faith in the Lord. After his death, Vasiliki took his body and buried it with honor. Because of this, she as well was brought before the governor, openly confessed her faith, and followed her husband in martyrdom.
Later, the saint appeared in a vision to his friend Macarius, urging him to become an example of faith and confession for all the believers. He was therefore executed, receiving the crown of martyrdom.
