Venerable Martyr Evdokia was born in 1886 in the village of Goretovo, Lukhovitsky uyezd of Ryazan Governorate, in the family of the peasant Sergei Arkhipov. In 1902 she entered the ancient Kazan Monastery in the city of Ryazan as a novice; at that time there were more than three hundred and fifty sisters there. In 1909 she was clothed in the riasophore. In 1919 the monastery was closed by the godless authorities, and Evdokia returned home, living with her parents and nephews.
In 1935 she was elected church warden. At that time the chairman of the village council notified the believers that the church had to be repaired, otherwise it would be closed. In 1936, a meeting of the parish council took place in the warden’s house, where it was decided to raise funds for the repair of the church. Evdokia urged everyone who came to the church to help, and soon the sum of four thousand rubles was collected, which made it possible to repair the church.
Venerable Martyr Olga was born in 1887 in the village of Goretovo, Lukhovitsky uyezd of Ryazan Governorate, in the family of the peasant Yegor Zhiltsov. At the age of eighteen, Olga entered the Kazan Monastery in the city of Ryazan as a novice. After the monastery was closed, she returned home and lived with her mother. When the threat of the church’s closure arose, Olga began persuading the faithful not to forget God’s храм and to give whatever help they could for its repair, so as not to be left without a place for prayer.
On February 26, 1938, the novice Olga and the psalm-reader Vasily Arkhipov were arrested. The church warden, the novice Evdokia Arkhipova, was arrested on February 16. During interrogation, the novice Olga was questioned in detail about her participation in collecting money for the church’s repair and was accused of anti-Soviet agitation. The confessor did not admit any guilt. The novice Olga, the psalm-reader Vasily Arkhipov, and the novice Evdokia were sentenced to be shot for “participation in a counterrevolutionary group.” The martyrs were executed on March 14, 1938, at the Butovo firing range near Moscow and buried in an unknown common grave.
