Saint Martyr Iya was taken captive along with 9000 Christians by the Persian king Shapur II and brought to the Persian city of Vizadu. The chief of the Persian magi compelled the saint to renounce Christ, but she remained steadfast and was subjected to tortures. Then she was thrown into prison and after repeated tortures was beheaded.
