Saint Hermione the Martyr was the daughter of the Holy Apostle Philip. When she traveled to Asia in search of Saint John the Theologian, she met Petronios, a disciple of the Apostle Paul, and decided to become his disciple. She was gifted and skilled in medicine. Thus, she healed many of the faithful. When the Emperor Trajan learned of her faith in Christ, he attempted to turn her away from it. However, she endured every suffering with patience.
Even after severe tortures, the saint remained unharmed through prayer and through the intervention of the Lord. When her tormentor ordered her to be thrown into fire, he saw her standing calmly above the flames, as though walking upon fresh grass. Then he cried out: “Great is the God of Christians!”
Saint Hermione was eventually executed. However, before her death she prayed for her torturers, who ultimately came to believe in the Lord. Her relics were placed in Ephesus, where many miraculous healings took place.
