Saint Emilian, Bishop of Kyzikos, endured severe sufferings for his faith in Christ. He was persecuted during the reign of Leo V the Armenian, an iconoclast who demanded that everyone should follow his orders.
The saint was repeatedly asked to abandon the veneration of the holy icons. However, remaining faithful to the teachings of the Fathers of the Church, he refused to comply. As a result, he endured many hardships, which he bore with joy, placing his hope in the eternal Kingdom of Heaven.
He surrendered his spirit in prison, praying and filled with grace.
The Church commemorates his memory on August 8.
