Elizaveta (Yarygina), nun
Venerable Martyr
Saint Elizabeth, in the world Elizabeth Alexandrovna Yarygina, was born in 1879 in the village of Safronovo, Yaren district, Vologda province. She entered as a novice in the Kiltovsky Cross Exaltation Women’s Monastery, and in 1918 she was tonsured as a nun. After the monastery was closed, she served as a psalmist in the Sreten Church of the village of Vylgort. On August 4, 1937, she was arrested on charges of 'active counter-revolutionary activity.' The troika of the NKVD of the Komi ASSR sentenced her to the highest measure of punishment. On September 12, 1937, she was shot near the city of Syktyvkar. Saint Elizabeth was canonized on October 6, 2001.
