Venerable Dositheus of Verkhneostrov, of Pskov, was a disciple of Venerable Euphrosynus of Spaso-Eleazar. He is known as the founder and abbot of the Verkhneostrov Monastery of Saints Peter and Paul on Upper Island (modern Belov, one of the Talab Islands on Lake Pskov).
According to the chronicles, at that time the Talab Islands were an impassable forest wilderness and served as a refuge for brigands. In his monastery, Dositheus of Verkhneostrov introduced a hermit-style communal monastic life.
In 1482, Venerable Dositheus of Verkhneostrov reposed in the Lord. His relics rest beneath the floor of the Verkhneostrov Monastery, which in 1764 was abolished and converted into the parish Church of Saints Peter and Paul.
